These Boots Were Made for Bedazzling

December 2010

By Raul Simon Cantor Lopez, Hong Kong

Christmas is the one time of the year (apart from your birthday) that one can throw prudence and virtue to the wind (we are talking shopping here of course) and go a bit loopy indulging in a little extravagance.

Hong Kong is not the kind of Bing winter wonderland of yore, or the sunny beach haven of Australia where I grew up, thus my wish list is usually tweaked with a more wearable wish, urban, fashion victim filter. Recently luxury shoe maestro Christian Louboutin reopened his Harbour City store in Tsim Sha Tsui with much pomp and fanfare including a visit by the man himself. The brand has a big following in Asia, known for its city style, statement making, collector’s item footwear designs, and finally more and more men’s shoes!

Top of my wish list in 2010, after a frugal couple of years are these gob-smacking silver python hi-top sneakers. Tying so many fashion footwear trends together in one product is no mean feat, yet Monsieur Louboutin has managed it this season and these sneakers must be mine.

As with all wish lists, and luxury items on those wish lists, the price point is not for the faint of heart retailing for a cool $13500 HKD ($1750 USD). Ok, so maybe I’ll just use the money to get something nice for mum and fly back to Australia for Christmas instead.
